Join us for our highly anticipated 2025 outdoor production of The Winter’s Tale in the beautiful grounds of Canford School, Wimborne. This poignant tale weaves together themes of jealousy, redemption, and the transformative power of time, merging tragedy and comedy in a unique exploration of love and loss.
A 'Winter’s Tale' is a story told of fantasy, of ‘sprites and goblins’... This one, however, tells of a king, Leontes, who is stricken by sudden jealousy. Convinced that his best and oldest friend, King Polixenes, has been having an affair with Leontes’ pregnant wife Queen Hermione, Leontes plots to have Polixenes killed and Hermione imprisoned - and once born Hermione’s child is to be taken away and abandoned!
This is perhaps the most popular ‘romantic adventure’ to emerge from Shakespeare’s quill – and it transitions from drama into more traditional comedy as it ages sixteen years from its dark beginnings in Sicilia to scenes of comic celebration and song in Bohemia, with the shepherds who adopt the baby found in the woods sixteen years before – where now the young Perdita has fallen for Polixenes's son, Florizel…
