Leave a Gift in Your Will

In many ways, remembering Canford in your Will is the greatest gift you can make to the school. It signifies your belief in all that Canford stands for and creates an enduring testimony.

Providing for Canford in your will demonstrates a tremendous commitment on your part, one that we think should be honoured during your lifetime. We have established the Nineveh Legacy Society as a way to honour and thank those who remember Canford in their wills during their lifetime.

Leaving a gift to Canford in your Will is a wonderful way to ensure that the school continues to thrive and provide tremendous opportunities for young people for generations to come. All gifts big or small are greatly appreciated.

Keith and Sarah Galbraith

“Both our sons had the privilege of a Canford education that moulded them to be well educated, in the broadest sense, well balanced, competent and compassionate young men. Their time at Canford was a very happy one. We recently updated our Wills and, after some reflection, decided to leave a modest (we are by no means wealthy) bequest to the Martin Marriott Foundation. We have had concerns that, historically, bursaries would often be awarded to families who were actually quite well resourced. However, we were reassured that every last penny of Martin Marriott Foundation money assists pupils from backgrounds with genuinely limited means. At this year’s Nineveh Society lunch, we had the privilege to meet and talk with a truly inspiring young man, who is a current bursary recipient and a phenomenal ambassador for the school and Martin Marriott Foundation programme.”

We look forward to hearing from you.

Your legacy pledge is hugely important to us

It is also advantageous to you from a tax perspective

Legacies are exempt from inheritance tax (IHT) and for estates leaving 10% or more to charity (this can be a number of charities), there is a reduction in IHT from 40% to 36%.

HMRC guidance states that your donation will either:

Be taken off the value of your estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated
Reduce your Inheritance Tax rate, if 10% or more of your estate is left to charity

When making a bequest in your will, please note that the beneficiary should be Canford School or the Martin Marriott Foundation, Canford, Registered Charity No 306315.

Sophie Minter (née Truell) M86

"I have just rewritten my Will and included a modest legacy to the Martin Marriott Foundation for Bursaries at Canford. I feel very grateful that I was able to go to Canford, assisted by an Army bursary. My wonderful, late father, George Truell M44 had been at the school and I felt fortunate to follow him there. Now I would like to help share those opportunities for others to experience."
