Set along the banks of the River Stour, Canford’s riverside setting is one of its defining features and a source of great pride for generations of pupils and Old Canfordians. However, as many will remember, this beautiful location can also present challenges during periods of significant rainfall.
Following recent heavy rain, there has been flooding in the local area. Thanks to careful planning and the swift response of our estates and wider staff teams, disruption to school life has been minimal, and pupils have continued their routines largely unaffected. We are incredibly grateful to our wonderful team, who have worked hard behind the scenes to manage the situation safely and effectively.
A look through the school archives reminds us that this is not a new phenomenon. Photographs from across Canford’s history show flooding on site in years gone by. We believe some of the earliest images date back to the 1920s.
We would love to hear from Old Canfordians who remember flooding during their own time at Canford. Were there any memorable consequences? Cancelled matches, altered routines, impromptu adventures or stories that have stayed with you over the years? Your recollections help to bring these moments in Canford’s history to life and connect generations of the Canford community.
If you have memories or insights to share, please do get in touch (community@canford.com) or leave your memories in the comments.
