A Memorable Evening at the Tower of London

A special evening at the Tower of London brought OCs together to reconnect and celebrate, with exclusive museum access and the rare chance to witness the historic Ceremony of the Keys.

Last Thursday, Old Canfordians gathered in truly exceptional surroundings for our annual OC London Drinks, held this year within the historic walls of The Tower of London at The Fusilier Museum.

Set against one of the most iconic backdrops in the country, the evening offered a unique opportunity to reconnect, reminisce and expand networks. The museum itself provided a fascinating setting, with guests enjoying private access to its remarkable collections while drinks and canapés were served throughout the evening.

There was a wonderful buzz from the moment guests arrived. It was particularly special to see such a wide range of the Canford community represented, with OCs from the Class of 1953 through to the Class of 2025 in attendance, alongside a number of current pupils. Conversations flowed easily as old friendships were rekindled and new connections formed.

Unsurprisingly, demand for tickets was extremely high and the event sold out quickly. Those who secured places early were also able to take advantage of a rare and memorable addition to the evening: the opportunity to attend the Ceremony of the Keys.

This centuries-old tradition has taken place at the Tower of London every night for over 700 years. The ceremony sees the Chief Yeoman Warder, escorted by soldiers, formally secure the Tower using the King’s Keys. The ritual concludes with the proclamation “God preserve King Charles” and the sounding of The Last Post, symbolically safeguarding the Crown Jewels and the Tower’s treasures for the night. It is a remarkable piece of living history and an experience few have the chance to witness.

We are hugely grateful to General Sir Roger Wheeler for making it possible for Canford to host this special event in such a unique and atmospheric venue.

Photographs from the evening can be viewed here.
