Reconnecting Generations: OC London Drinks at the Theatre Royal

Old Canfordians gathered for a fantastic evening at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, reconnecting across generations with drinks, a tour, and pupil insights into life at Canford today.

Old Canfordians gathered last Thursday for a fantastic evening in the heart of London’s Theatreland for the annual OC London Drinks, held this year in the stunning surroundings of the Grand Saloon at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

The event welcomed OCs from across the generations, from the Class of 1953 through to 2024, offering a special opportunity to reunite, network, and enjoy a night of relaxed conversation in a venue steeped in history and elegance. Bathed in the warm spring sunshine, the outdoor terrace overlooking Catherine Street proved a popular spot to catch up and reconnect.

Those who opted in, enjoyed a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of the theatre, led by the engaging David Kerby-Kendall. Despite the auditorium being closed due to preparations for Disney’s Hercules, the tour offered a glimpse into the building’s rich past, including theatrical insights, ghost stories, and tales of royal intrigue.

As the evening unfolded, guests mingled in the magnificent Grand Saloon, recently restored to its 1812 glory following a £60 million refurbishment, enjoying drinks beneath dazzling chandeliers and amidst ornate surroundings. A short address from OCS President Sheila Way B86 included a fond farewell to Headmaster Ben Vessey, acknowledging his final OC London Drinks and his valued support of the Old Canfordian community over the years.

It was also wonderful to have five Lower Sixth pupils join us for the evening, sharing insights into life at Canford today and connecting with OCs about their own school memories and experiences.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for such an enjoyable and memorable evening.
