Old Canfordians |
It is with deep sadness that I let the Canford Community know of the passing of Martin Marriott, who died peacefully on the morning of 30th July, surrounded by his daughters, Ginny and Bex.
Martin served as Headmaster of Canford from 1976 to 1992, and remained a lifelong supporter and advocate of the School. He was deeply committed to broadening access to a Canford education, and it is in recognition of that passion that our bursary foundation bears his name - the Martin Marriott Foundation. His legacy lives on in the many lives transformed through that vision.
Those who knew Martin will remember his calm wisdom, deep intellect, and unshakeable belief in the power of education to open doors and lift horizons. His influence is woven into the fabric of the School we know and cherish today.
We appreciate that many across the Canford community will want to pay their respects but not all will be able to attend his funeral on Monday 18th August, 11am at St Thomas's in Salisbury.
A live stream is available here: https://youtube.com/live/HQHAj55xn3E
The above will be available for a couple of weeks if you are unable to watch the funeral live.
In time, a full obituary will be shared along with details of a Celebration of Life for Martin and Judith to be hosted at Canford.
In the meantime, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his children Ginny, Bex, Charles and the wider family, and give thanks for the remarkable contribution Martin made to Canford and to generations of pupils, staff and alumni.
