We were delighted to hear that former Canford pupil Lauren Corn L23 has joined the Clipper Round the World Race as First Mate on board Washington DC.
Lauren, stepped in at short notice to replace the previous First Mate and is one of only two paid professionals on the team. Alongside her 21-year-old skipper, she forms the youngest skipper/mate pairing in this year’s race. They set sail from Uruguay to Cape Town yesterday evening (20th October) on a 17-day ocean journey.
Lauren grew up sailing in Dorset and, after a break from university, earned her Yachtmaster qualification in Australia, gaining experience in racing and instruction. She also spent this summer leading Clipper Race training sessions as a First Mate.
