Following on from our recent update about Lauren Corn L23 joining the Clipper Round the World Race as First Mate aboard Washington DC, it has been wonderful to hear from members of our OC community who have been following her progress. Lauren and her team completed their 17-day journey from Uruguay to Cape Town later than expected after sustaining rudder damage en route, but safely arrived into port on Thursday morning.
OC John Legat M81 reached out to share that he had been in Cape Town at the same time and had been tracking Lauren’s progress. Although the delay meant they narrowly missed meeting each other, John reflected on his own experience sailing the Cape to Rio race in 2003, a route that mirrors Lauren’s in reverse, and expressed how exciting it was to follow another OC taking on such an extraordinary challenge. It is always inspiring to hear of OC connections from around the world, even when they are ships passing in the night!
