This December, we are running 12 Days of Throwbacks, sharing a different item from the Canford archive each day, many with a festive theme, and inviting our community to guess the answers to a daily question. While the series is being posted on Instagram, we know that not everyone uses social media, so we wanted to provide the opportunity here for you to play along as well. We hope you enjoy this festive sprinkle of Canford nostalgia. Each day’s archive item and question is included below, and on 13th December we will be revealing all of the answers.
Day 1:
A wonderfully snowy shot of Mountjoy. What year do you think this was taken?
Day 2:
Can you guess the name of the production, performed in 1963?
Day 3:
Canfordians are celebrating at the end of an annual event. Which House event happens at the end of the Christmas term?
Day 4:
Here is a photograph from a House Christmas Party set up. Do you recognise where it was held at Canford? Nowadays, House Christmas parties tend to take place in the Old Library and in John o' Gaunt's.
Day 5:
Can you guess which country the Canfordians are Nordic skiing in?
Day 6:
Can you guess the location of the Christmas Carol service rehearsals back in 2012?
Day 7:
Can you guess the event?
Day 8:
A beautiful photograph of Canford Magna Parish Church after a snowfall. Can you guess what year it was taken?
Day 9:
Franklin House Christmas dinner and entertainment in 1965. Can you guess the location?
Day 10:
Something a bit different for day 10, an article from The Canfordian that shares the story of a group of pupils who went to France to sell Christmas puddings as part of their enterprise project. How much profit do you think they made?
Day 11:
A rather wet House cross-country race. Can you guess the year?
Stay tuned for day 12!
